Multiple Sclerosis... affects more people than you realise!

MS - the mostly 'hidden' condition. I've been planning on writing a post about MS for a while, but just thought I'd squeeze this one in on behalf of my lovely friend.

She's an MS manager (not sufferer!) and leads a pretty normal life - well, as normal a life as a working Mum has anyway! She is slightly mad though, as this Saturday she's completing a sky-dive to fundraise for Multiple Sclerosis Society. They have been a lifeline for her throughout her journey and no doubt are a great help to others and their families too!

She's over half way to her target so if you feel that you can spare a couple of pounds or pennies to help her on her way, please support her crazy adventure here!

I'll do a full post soon as there are a few people that I know with the condition - from all walks of life so it shows that anyone could become a sufferer!

PS... I did forget to mention that Linda is afraid of heights!! This just proves my theory that she IS crazy!

The Big Barmouth Knit... In Progress!

Here's an update on our Big Barmouth Knit!  We've had some squares received already and I know there's more on the way.

The Cambrian News (our local newspaper) have covered the event for us and will be present on the day when we announce the winner and present the scarf to Bermo Maoi.

The Big Barmouth Knit 2013 in aid of Wales Air Ambulance & the RNLI.  

To raise money for two very valuable resources which are used daily throughout Wales, with your help, we are going to knit an epic, super-length scarf for our friend on the beach, Bermo Moai.

Doesn't he look cold and lonely just stood there.... naked?

So how do we join in?

Grab your knitting needles and crochet hooks and get knitting or crocheting!

Please ensure the knitted or crocheted squares are 6” square (or as close as you can get!) so we can make the scarf as beautiful and seamless as possible!  Any colour and type of yarn is fine!

Then, please send your completed square(s) to:

You can donate just one square if you like, but the more squares the merrier!  The aim is to make a super-long scarf to help keep Bermo Moai warm(er!) than he is!  The grand dressing ceremony will take place on Easter Monday (1^st April) 2013 at 2pm... please be assured this is not an April Fool!

All squares must be received at the address above by Monday 18^th March 2013 to be included and to enable the final stitching to take place.

Please pop a note in the envelope with your email address on if you wish to receive an email acknowledgement of your contribution.

Great, so how are you raising money for the Wales Air Ambulance and the RNLI?

Once all the squares have been received and stitched together, we will measure the total length of the scarf (to the nearest inch) and  the person who has guessed the correct length will win 1/3 of the total amount raised with the remaining 2/3 being split equally between the Wales Air Ambulance and the RNLI.

Anyone can buy a “guess” at the (laid out not stretched) length of the scarf for £1... more than 1 person can guess the same number of inches – the prize in this case will be split equally between the winners.  There will be a PayPal account available for anyone outside of the area to donate and have a go! 

The competition will go live via the Katie Cupcake Cymru Facebook page once all of the squares have been received and stitched together – we will give you ONE clue as to what the length is... the total weight of the scarf! 

The official measuring will be verified by an independent adjudicator and the winner announced at the dressing ceremony.  In the event of more than one person correctly guessing the total length of the scarf, the winner’s prize fund will be split between the number of correct guessers.

Following the official photographs, the scarf will be donated to a local animal rescue centre to provide snuggly blankets for the animals they care for.

Please share this post to help us raise lots of funds for charities essential for the safety of everyone out there.  Following the recent floods, the RNLI and the Wales Air Ambulance have been involved in many rescue situations - and not just for families living by the sea.

It's a scary thought but one in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.

Macmillan Cancer support provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.

£25.00 will pay for one hour for a Macmillan nurse to support a family affected by cancer.

£51.00 could buy a liquidiser for someone who can't eat solid food as a result of their cancer treatment.
£70.00 could help run a large Macmillan information and support centre for an hour.
£191.00 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a day, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential support.
£220.00 could pay for travel and accommodation for a support group member to attend a dealing with loss workshop.
£333.00 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together.

Macmillan Coffee Morning Fundraiser - Cakes, cakes, cakes!

Just a quick "hello" today and some updated cupcake photos!  To support Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning I'm baking for 2 local coffee mornings - one takes place tomorrow and here's a selection of my contribution...

Drum roll please.... we have ginger, honey & lemon; chocolate fudge; chocolate orange; royal iced; butter iced and marshmallow chrysanthemum cupcakes!!!

I've not decided what I'll be baking for the second one at the weekend... we'll see!

School Sport's Day Take 3 and 8th Birthday Fun!

Well, after a very wet "Summer" term at school, we finally admitted defeat and held the event yesterday in a local sport's hall!  The morning was still a great success and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  The obstacle race is always a hit along with the nursery class' pram race!  The older children really enjoy the competitiveness but sometimes, I'm sure the little ones are confused as to why everyone has come to watch them do PE!

The cake and coffee stall went down a treat, as always raising much needed funds for the school events throughout the year.  After all, who can resist a lovely coffee and cake with the added bonus of helping the children in the process!

Then today, we have the excitement of my daughter's 8th birthday!  An early morning wake-up call of an excited newly-8 years old sister was too much for my son... "leave me alone, I'm tired!" were his first words to her this morning... but was equally excited when he realised it was the last day of school and it's time for the "big" holidays!

As a treat for my daughter's class we've done a little tea party for the class to celebrate her birthday and the last day of term... not just cake this time - we do encourage a balanced diet, not just cake!

 We're off to the Legoland Discovery Centre tomorrow so watch this space for the photo's of a Lego tour of Great Britain!  But first, birthday meal out for Charlotte tonight... her choice, Chinese mmmmm :)
